‘Stand On The Word’ was written by Phyliss McKoy Joubert and originally recorded in 1982 by a children’s choir - the Celestial Choir, at a Brooklyn Baptist Church. Pressed independently as a limited release for the local congregation, the nine-minute gospel track was soon discovered by visionary New York club DJs. Its infection piano groove and uplifting vocal energy transformed it into a legendary anthem at iconic venues like the Paradise Garage and Club Zanzibar and become a staple and a fundational post-disco / early house record.

Today the song stands as a seminal bridge between traditional spiritual devotion and early underground house music culture.
